Hi Ladies & Gents!
Welcome back again to the fourth part of the Back ‘2’ School Series. Today I am featuring someone who I have admired for many years – quite literally as she was one of the ‘big girls’ when we were both students at the same school. I never would’ve thought that Mrs. Toneil Knight and I would run in the same circles one day but I can assure you my younger self is truly overjoyed!
Truly a beautiful force, both inside and out, you will see for yourself in the responses that were given to me, that she is another incredible teacher who enjoys what she does for a living. There is no doubt in my mind that she has a great hand in helping to educate the next generation of great minds!
1. What subject and age group do you teach?
I teach all core subjects grades 1 and 2.
2. What is your favourite part about teaching?
I really enjoy teaching! I wouldn’t say that I particularly have a favourite part of teaching, however I enjoy knowing that even when I think that my students are not listening to me my left lessons and words of encouragement are sticking with them.
3. What do you hope your students will take away from you this year?
This year I want my students to make good choices, even if that means taking the road less traveled. Don’t be afraid to stand up for what you believe is right.
4. Something you would like parents to know/understand
Teaching is more than instructing students reading, writing, math, and science. We are nurses, counsellors, protectors etc. It would be appreciated if before accusing teachers of what we didn’t accomplish in a week, try to be considerate of the various levels and challenges that may be presented in one classroom on any given day. We are genuinely doing our best with the load we have been given.
5. Age appropriate word of advice/encouragement for your students and parents this year
Perseverance is never giving up. You can do it!
Xx See you all next week!
