Toddler Natural Hair — Flat Twists Tutorial

Hello Lovelies!

Believe it or not, once upon a time I genuinely hated flat twists. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the results but to actually do them proved to be a challenge. The first time I did them, I did it on my own hair and it took a couple of tries for me to do a half decent job. Even with that because said, I have only really done it on the front section of my hair and probably not more than two or four twists.

I don’t know what happened but I decided to try it on Charlotte’s hair and I found myself becoming obsessed with mastering it. Regardless of which way you look at it, I do believe that there can be a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the flat twists but once you’ve gotten a handle on it, it’s really fun to do, and should you decided to take them down after a couple of days, the definition is absolutely gorgeous (with the right product and formula as well).

For this hairstyle, I did it on freshly washed hair as I found that to give me the best results at the take down phase. I detangle her hair with the Camille Rose Natural Kids leave-in conditioner, oil her scalp as usual with our jojoba and JBCO oil blend, and I put a decent amount of The Mane Choice 24 Karat Gold Twisting Gel on every piece of hair that I will flat twists. I make sure to comb that product through prior to forming my twists.

Anyhow, I sectioned Charlotte’s hair into three sections. With the help of the alligator clip, I parted the back of her hair and while the rest of the hair was gathered and out of my way, I begun my flat twists. Every time I attempted to twist the hair, i picked up a couple of strands from the scalp. This over-under motion is what I did until I reached the end of the hair.

For the other two sections of her hair, I flat twist going from the center part going down to each ear on either side of her head. I realized that this is my preferred method so that when I take down Charlotte’s hair, it will be nice and balanced and fall in the right direction.
